I am so proud of their hard work today! Don't forget to send them with a beach towel tomorrow, so we can enjoy reading outdoors. They had a blast painting today after we finished testing. However, most of them will tell you chewing gum was their favorite part!

Message from Ms. Larrick: The tiger shirts will be painted during the regular art class times the week after April Break (April 10 - 13). I need cardboard and newspaper for this project.
Check out the calendar page for important dates for the rest of the school year.
We go to art on Fridays, so our day will be April 13th.
Check out the spelling page for the spelling word lists for the next couple of weeks. Also, I will put the wordia passwords on there for each week.

STAR Reading and Spelling
Happy Thursday!
I have an exciting new website for the students to use to practice their spelling words at home. The 5th grade students have really enjoyed using it, and I think our class will love it too. Here is the link for the game I created this week http://www.wordia.com/play/1575/miller Lowercase miller is their password to play. Please have them check it out!!!
Your child will be bringing home their latest STAR Reading report in their communication folder today. This report includes their individual reading level and is yours to keep.
New book order forms went home this week. Please submit all orders by April 4th. For online ordering information, please check out the Scholastic page of our blog.
The class is really taking their new challenge seriously. They already have 26 books towards their goal, and we have only been back in school for 4 days!! I will be sending home a printout in their communication folders tomorrow of the scores they have made on all the books they have tested on this year. I am so proud of their hard work! Please continue to encourage them to read every night. Geronimo Stilton is a very popular series for them right now.
Since it is close to the end of the school year, CSPN will be going back to their cash only policy. Please keep that in mind when you pay CSPN.
As always, thank you for everything you do!!! You guys make an amazing support system!!!

Pajamas, Pizza and Books Oh My!
Happy 100 Book Celebration!
I am so proud of their hard work, so today we will celebrate. They look so cute in their pajamas! I have issued a new challenge to them for the last 9 weeks. They have to read 250 chapter books! I don't think they will have any trouble meeting this goal before the end of the school year. They were given fresh ar sheets for their folders, so they can write down all the reading they do over spring break!
I will keep their agenda books and folders over the break. Their ThinkShow projects are coming home today. They received lots of compliments on their hard work!
Enjoy your spring break!!! See you in 2 weeks!

Picture Day and Characters!
We had some very interesting characters in our classroom this week!
Thank you so much for your support of the book fair. Also, a special thank you to those of you who donated books to our class library. Our class got an extra $15 to spend at the book fair because we came in second place for the door decorating contest! The students are thrilled with our new books. I know they can't wait to check them out.
Speaking of reading...We now have 83 chapter books that we have tested on and received a score of 80% or higher!!!! I am hoping we can reach our goal before spring break.
Picture day is next Thursday the 23rd. This will be individual spring pictures and our class photo. Students may dress out of uniform for that day.
Remember, no school on Monday, and ThinkShow projects are due on Tuesday.
I hope you all have a wonderful and safe weekend! I cannot express to you enough how blessed I feel to work with your children!

Character Dress-Up Day & Grand Spring Festival
Happy Valentine's Day!
Tomorrow students can dress like their favorite book character for the book fair. Their costume must represent a character from a book. They should also bring their favorite book. For more information, see the book fair flyer that went home last week.
Also, this Saturday at 6:30pm in The Michael D. Rose Theatre The Confucius Institute will present the Grand Spring Festival. The admission is free, and our wonderful Chinese teacher will be there. There will be a dragon and lion dance and Chinese Kongfu. They will also get the opportunity to try Chinese food, so she suggests you get there before 6:30. She also invited the students to stay after the show to take a picture with her and the dragon.
