Wonderful World of Second Grade!

Happy Wednesday!

Weekly work folders came home today. Please make sure to sign and return them by Friday. Also, take out all the keep at home papers.

The CSPN support drive started this week. If our class gets 100% participation, we will get a day to wear jeans to school! You can show your support by sending in as little as a $1. Please make sure to fill out the envelope and put your donation inside.

Our class is doing a wonderful job with the Homefun this week. They really appear to be taking ownership of their work. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions about our new HomeFun routine.

Don't forget to initial their planner every night.

Thank you so much for sending in items from our class wish list. Your support means so much!J

Registration Packet and Parent Night

Dear Parents,

We had an AMAZING first week of school. They were so ready for 2nd grade. It was like we never left for the summer. I have some pics to post of their first day, but I have to wait until I get back all their media release forms from the registration packets.

Registration packets went home last Thursday. Please make sure to return your child's completed packet by Tuesday. All forms should be completed. However, you do not have to fill out the free and reduced lunch form unless you want to see if your child qualifies. Also, only fill out the after school forms for the activities you want your child to attend. Please fill out both student info cards.

HomeFun will be a little different this year, so I am waiting until the 3rd week of school to introduce it. I want to make sure I get to explain it to you first at the parent meeting this Thursday from 6:00-6:45pm. Please make every effort to attend. Childcare will be provided for Campus School children only.

Their OWL (organized while learning) Binders will not go home until after the meeting as well. We will continue using the blue folders again this week. Please make sure they bring them to school everyday.

Thanks so much for all you do! I am looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday.

Last Blog Post of the School Year!

Dear Parents,

Thank you for coming out for pastries with parents and our portfolio picnic. The class really enjoyed getting to show you all that they had accomplished this school year.

We have some special events planned for this week...

Tuesday- Summer Birthday Celebration and Game Day- Students may bring their favorite board game to play with the class. Please no electronic games. Bring a bag for pack-up.

Wednesday- Reading Incentive Movie Day and Popcorn- Your child must have 40 books recorded in their AR folder to participate. They also have to pass at least 12 AR tests.

Thursday- Field Trip to the Fountain- We will take a walking field trip to the fountain on campus.

Friday- Award's Assembly at 8:15 am in the playroom. Following the Award's Assembly, I will present each child with a special award in the classroom. I will also pass out and explain some activities for the summer. Parents are welcome to join us. Students will be dismissed at noon.

End of the Year

Dear Parents,

The end of the year is catching up to us so quickly, so I want to make sure I stop and thank you all for the wonderful goodies I received during Teacher Appreciation Week. The notes you guys sent in were so touching and made my day in so many ways. Thank you again for trusting me with your precious children each and every day. I cannot tell you enough how much they mean to me.

This week is very busy, and I know there is a lot to keep track of. Here are a few quick reminders:

Thursday- CiCi's Pizza and Skate Party- If you have not sent in the money and permission slip, please do so as soon as possible. Don't forget to have your child wear socks and bring their booster seat for our party. The chaperone letter will go out later this week.

Friday- Pastries with Parents and Portfolio Party- 8:30-9:30 am. Please come to our classroom at 8:30. Make sure to return the RSVP by Wednesday, so I know how many pastries to purchase. Also, if you have a big blanket or towel you can bring, that would be great!

Friday- Spring Fling- Please have your child dress for the weather and wear sunblock. Also, they can still purchase a wristband on Friday for $12 if they have not done so already.

After the Awards Program on May 31st, every child in the classroom will receive a special award from me. I will present the awards in our classroom. Please join us if you can

Please look for a bright orange sheet in your child's folder today. The only thing I need you to fill out is your address and home phone number. Please feel free to put a cell number if you do not have a home phone. We just have to make sure we have the most up to date information in their files. You do not need to send in copies of anything. Everyone in our class already has everything they need in their file:)

Here's to a great 7 and a half days!

Subtraction Facts and Much More

Happy Monday,

We will have a subtraction fact test on the 3 facts this Friday. 10-3 will be the biggest problem on the test. Please encourage your child to study every night this week.

We make our flashcards on Monday of each week, and they participate in math fact races with their friends throughout the week. Below is an example of what their subtraction math fact bag looks like. You may want to make a similar one for them at home. I drew a number line at the top, and they use the red slider to count backwards.

Please make sure to turn in the permission slip and money for our Botanic Gardens trip by Wednesday. We only have one chaperone for that trip signed up so far, so please let me know if you can join us.

If you are chaperoning for any of our upcoming field trips, please make sure you have given me a copy of your license and updated auto insurance information. Many policies expired in January. Also, make sure you have completed the MCS screening process. If you did it earlier this year, it is still good. You do not have to do it again for the 2012/2013 school year.

Scholastic Book Orders are due by Wednesday of this week. Don't forget about our surprise for Mrs. Gooch.

Our Accelerated Reader incentive is still going strong! Please make sure your child is reading every night to help them reach their goal. For the rest of the school year, they can test on any day they bring in their folder.

Thanks so much for all you do! I know this time of year can be a bit overwhelming with all the activities and events. Here's to another wonderful week in 1st grade!
