Money, Fast Facts, and Reading

I hope you enjoyed your weekend! They did such a fabulous job with Family Gathering on Friday. I am so proud of them. If you have any pictures or video from their performance, please post them on our class photo site. I would love to see them!

We are starting our unit on money this week. To help us practice counting coins, please send 4 quarters, 5 dimes, 8 nickels, and 10 pennies in a Ziploc bag with your child's name on it. We will begin using them tomorrow. They will get to spend their money on a special treat at the end of the unit, so their money will not come back home.

The reading incentive for January ends this Friday. Please make sure your child has read and recorded at least 10 books they have read this month in their Accelerated Reader Folder. In addition, they must also pass 3 Accelerated Reader tests to earn their bookmark and pencil.

We will be testing on our 7 addition facts this Friday. Please have your child study their facts every night this week.

Thanks for all you do!

100th Day of School

Happy 100th Day!!! We had a blast and a very busy day! Zero the Hero made a surprise appearance and brought each class a box of doughnuts. We then shared our collection of 100 things with each other and counted our partner's collection. After the sugar from the doughnuts, we headed over to the playroom to do 100 exercises. Our morning ended with each student rolling a die 100 times and charting their results. We then got to practice for family gathering on the big stage for the first time. They are really shinning brightly! When they returned from support they sorted one hundred fruit loops by 10s and made a necklace. Bring on day 101!!

Family Gathering and More

I hope you all are keeping warm! I just wanted to let you know your child brought home their script for family gathering today. Please encourage them to practice their lines every night. We will be practicing at school as well. They are already doing a great job and are so eager to perform! Before we assigned roles, the students let me know what they were interested in doing, so they all appear to be really comfortable with their parts.

Our day to perform is next Friday, January 25th. On that day, they should wear some sort of sports uniform (soccer, football, gymnastics, dance, cheerleading etc.) or athletic shirt. They will need to be at school by 7:40. After they hang their backpack up in the booth, they should go to the playroom. Please make sure they bring a change of clothes, so they can put on their school uniform when it is over. I will send out another reminder closer to time.

For my intersession class, I am in need of some items you may want to recycle. If you can save any of the following for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
  • empty toilet paper rolls
  • empty soup cans
  • empty egg cartons
Also, we are running low on some items for our classroom. If you would like to help, please send in any of the items below.
  • gallon ziplock bags
  • liquid hand soap
  • brown crayons (Somehow, we have managed to use almost all of them.)

I will be out of the building on Friday. My oldest son is having surgery. Mrs. Gooch will be there along with a substitute. Also, I have added new photos to the photo site. Stop by and check it out!
