Picture Day and Characters!

We had some very interesting characters in our classroom this week!

Thank you so much for your support of the book fair. Also, a special thank you to those of you who donated books to our class library. Our class got an extra $15 to spend at the book fair because we came in second place for the door decorating contest! The students are thrilled with our new books. I know they can't wait to check them out.

Speaking of reading...We now have 83 chapter books that we have tested on and received a score of 80% or higher!!!! I am hoping we can reach our goal before spring break.

Picture day is next Thursday the 23rd. This will be individual spring pictures and our class photo. Students may dress out of uniform for that day.

Remember, no school on Monday, and ThinkShow projects are due on Tuesday.

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe weekend! I cannot express to you enough how blessed I feel to work with your children!

Character Dress-Up Day & Grand Spring Festival

Happy Valentine's Day!

Tomorrow students can dress like their favorite book character for the book fair. Their costume must represent a character from a book. They should also bring their favorite book. For more information, see the book fair flyer that went home last week.

Also, this Saturday at 6:30pm in The Michael D. Rose Theatre The Confucius Institute will present the Grand Spring Festival. The admission is free, and our wonderful Chinese teacher will be there. There will be a dragon and lion dance and Chinese Kongfu. They will also get the opportunity to try Chinese food, so she suggests you get there before 6:30. She also invited the students to stay after the show to take a picture with her and the dragon.

Book Fair and ThinkShow

A special thank you to Mrs. Kearney for helping with our door display for the book fair. We have the opportunity to win free books for our class through the decorating contest! The theme this year is luau.

Our class will shop on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00-2:30. Please make sure to send in your child's shopping money in a Ziploc bag with their name on it. Feel free to come up and help them shop during their time. Also, make sure to join us for family night on Thursday from 6-8pm.

On Friday, your child brought home information about their ThinkShow project. The whole school is going to use the centennial theme again. Our class had the 50s, so that is the time period we will focus on. Your child has been assigned a specific topic from that time. They will do research at home to answer some questions about their topic. They will use that information to write a narrative in class. In addition, your child will create an artifact at home. Your child can create a PowerPoint, poster, book, mobile, album cover, brochure, advertisement, or game. The research and artifact are due on February 21st. Remember, there is no school on the 20th.

Our book count is up to 76!!!!! Happy Reading!!!

Here is a link to our class wiki for the things we will need for our 100 book celebration. A date has not been set yet. I will let you know as soon as they reach their goal.

On Tuesday and/or Thursday, please send your child's shopping money in a Ziploc bag with their name on it. Also, you can come up and join your child on their shopping day to help them. They did an outstanding job!!!! I am so proud of them!

Our class began an 100 hundred book challenge last week. They are working as a team to read 100 chapter books. For the books to count, they must take an AR test on each book and score at least 80%. It does not matter how big or small the chapter books are. The class got to vote on their reward, and they want a pajama party with pizza, a movie, and ice cream. Looks like we will be partying soon because they read and tested on 28 chapter books last week! They are amazing! Please continue to encourage them to read every night at home. I will keep you posted on our goal! Also, I replaced the students' folders who said they lost theirs, so everyone should have a fresh start!
